As a geographical Minority here at Emory, I’ve had to do a few things to assimilate to culture here. First I had to change how I dressed like I mentioned in my interview with Meg. The cargo shorts I brought are buried deep in my dresser while my button down shirts and kakis are constantly needing to be washed.

As a big eater back home used to gigantic Midwest portions I was always hungry here. I would feel rude asking the staff at the DUC for larger portions, but my stomach was used to large plates stuffed with food. The freshman fifteen quickly became an afterthought. Over the first semester my appetite has shrunk at little bit solely from eating smaller portions.

I am used to the constant rush of getting everywhere in the Midwest. The more laid back pace whenever I go anywhere off campus is an adjustment. It takes longer to get places because not only are speed limits lower, but people tend to drive much slower. Back home if your driving at or below the speed limit, you will usually have a car tailgating close behind you.
